In October 2024, Tarana Harris Mayes joined a panel at Morehouse College for “Better Than They Found It: Black Coaches Who Shaped Modern Pro Football.” Drawing from her documentary in progress—inspired by her father, Chick Harris, a 33-year NFL assistant coach—Mayes discussed the impact of Black coaches on the league. Hosted by Morehouse’s Journalism in Sports, Culture, and Social Justice Department, the conversation explored their legacy, challenges, and contributions to professional football.
At the Stanford Summit, Tarana Harris Mayes served as the moderator for “Writing Ourselves into the Culture,” a discussion on the intersection of sports, media, and storytelling.
